Villas in Albufeira

Albufeira is perhaps the best known of all the resorts in Portugal’s Algarve. It covers a surprisingly sprawling area, where amenities and tourist attractions of all kinds are within easy reach.

Albufeira primarily splits into two zones: “the strip” (Montechoro) and the Old Town. The former is undoubtedly a party zone, much loved by youngsters and groups. The Old Town, whilst still busy in summer, retains some authentic Portuguese charm. One of the best things about Albufeira is that these contrasting regions can offer a different vibe for all ages, making it a great choice for large family groups.

Life in Albufeira’s old town centers on several picturesque squares and the Praia dos Pescadores (fishermen’s beach). The beach is backed by a series of cafes and restaurants, and it’s possible to walk for miles to other beaches and resorts, all of which boast the beautiful orange cliffs typical of this region.

One particularly rewarding beach is in the neighbouring resort of Galé, just five kilometers west. The beach boasts an array of coves and rock pools, and a host of watersports concessions in the summer months. Best of all, it faces West, making a sunset dinner in one of the beach restaurants a stunning and memorable night out.

Finally, it’s handy to know that Albufeira has a permanent population running into the tens of thousands. As such, it never feels “closed” off-season, making it a great choice for a winter break in mild, sunny weather.

Weather and Climate Albuferia

The Algrave enjoys a lovely climate which is one of the reasons why it is so popular with holidaymakers across Europe and beyond. It starts getting up to around 22 degrees in May and temperatures peak in August at an average of 28 degrees with it remaining warm right through to October.

Even the winter months are very mild, December to February average around 16 degrees and whilst you are more likely to get a bit of rain across Winter those temperatures mean places like Albufeira are open all year round.

Getting To Albufeira

The closest airport to Albufeira is Faro Airport (FAO), this is the main airport that serves the Algarve resorts and it is located in Faro which is on the southern coast of the Algarve.

Transfers in car from Faro to Albufeira take around 40 minutes for the roughly 40Km trip with a wide range of taxis, transfer coaches and public transport regularly making the journey.

Albufeira Beaches

The Algarve is famous for some of the best beaches in Europe and Albufeira found in southern Portugal has its fair share of them. One of the main beaches is the Fisherman’s beach which runs right next to the strip in the Old Town area. Another beautiful beach is Falésia beach, this sits to the east of Albufeira but is well worth a visit with its long sandy beach.

Amongst the many other beaches dotted along the coast is the one at Sao Rafael, it’s not the biggest beach but its surrounded sandstone cliffs and is highly rated by guests as being one of the most picturesque. Oura beach is also definitely worth a visit if you are staying in an Albufeira villa holiday home.

Albufeira Waterpark

Waterpark lovers have plenty of options on the Algarve as a whole and one of the most popular parks, Zoomarine Algarve, is just 15 minutes away by bus or taxi from Albufeira. Whilst it does have a waterpark there are also a number of shows to watch, amusement rides to jump on, and plenty of places to eat and drink. Zoomarine Algarve

Slide and Splash is the place to head to if you want that full day waterpark experience, it features a wide range of slides from Kamikaze and the Black Hole through to a Tropical Paradise area for younger children. It is a bit further out taking around 30 minutes in taxi from the town centre but is definitely worth it. Slide & Splash

Golfing Albufeira

Portugal and golfing go hand in hand, there is somewhere in the region of 30 - 40 golf courses across the Algarve alone so you’re never too far from tee off or a good club house.

Many of these courses are in easy reach of Albufeira by car including the famous Amendoeira Faldo Course designed by golfing superstar Nick Faldo which is a short 20 mini taxi ride away from the heart of Albufeira. Amendoeira Faldo Course

Other courses around the area include Salgados and Balaia courses which are both within around 15 minutes drive out of the resort. Those looking to experience the exclusive Jack Nicholson Monte Rei course are looking at around a 1 hour journey time, worth it though for that dream golfing experience. Monte Rei Course
