Madeira Villas & Apartment Rentals

Madeira is Portugal’s subtropical island archipelago territory found in the Atlantic Ocean off the eastern coast of Africa. The four islands which make up Madeira are around 500Km north of the Canary Islands and sit around 700Km west of Morocco.

The largest and main island is Madeira Island with the capital Funchal found on the southern coast being the most populated part of Madeira. The second main island in the chain is Porto Santo and the main city is called Vila Baleira.

Being sat in the Atlantic means that like the Canary Islands, Madeira can be windy at times however the main city of Funchal does tend to be sheltered from the worst effects, and it’s southernly position means far milder winter months than you’d normally expect on mainland Europe.

The mountainous and subtropical environment mean that Madeira is perfect for hiking and exploring on foot or by bike, or for those less adventurous scenic cable car tours are readily available to take in the natural beauty of the island.

If you’re looking for the perfect place to stay we Madeira villa properties across the south coast catering for every need, from luxury villas with pools to more affordable apartments right in the heart of the city. Take a look below at our full range of villas in Madeira to rent.

Getting To Madeira

The main entry point into Madeira is via Madeira Airport (FNC), this is located on the south east of the island around 18Km from Funchal which takes around 20 minutes in car. Interestingly for football fans, the airport was renamed in 2016 as the Madeira International Airport Cristiano Ronaldo in honour of Madeira's most famous football player.

Car rental desks, taxi ranks, and a bus terminal make the airport well connected to the main island cities and resorts.

Madeira Beaches

All of the natural beaches on Madeira are made up of pebbles and rocks, that's because Madeira is a volcanic island, they are beautiful and feature stunning views, often with natural rock pools, they just aren't the typical sandy beach experience you might initially be expecting.

There are a couple of man made sandy beaches made with sand imported to the Island, the main one is Machico beach which is a busy spot surrounded by shops and cafes, this is around a 25 minute drive from Funchal so would make a great beach day out.

Madeira Golf

Portugal as a whole makes for a great golfing holiday but what about Madeira? Golfers will be pleased to learn that there are a few options available, the hilly and windy conditions on the island make for very scenic locations but this also makes for sometimes challenging courses.

Clube de Golf Santo da Serra is a large 27 hole course with views over Machico bay, it has a reputation for fast sloped greens, windy conditions, and an amazing clubhouse. Clube de Golf Santo da Serra

Situated just 10 minutes from Funchal, Palheiro Golf Course is an 18 hole championship course offering stunning views and some challenging holes, a must visit course for golf lovers visiting Madeira. Palheiro Golf

History & Culture

First settled in 1420 Madeira was soon after made an official province of Portugal. It originally produced both sugar and wine however Madeira wine went on to become the main export of the island.

A great place to visit to learn more about the history and culture of Madeira is the Madeira Theme Park although it is more suited to younger children and families than a more traditional theme park would normally be. Madeira Theme Park
