One of the Algarve’s most well-known beach towns, Carvoeiro strikes a great balance between gentility and fun. The town itself boasts a huge number of restaurants that slope towards the town’s beautiful cove beach, many of which sell the freshest of local seafood.
While it’s fair to say that the town’s beach struggles to accommodate the summer crowds, it is still a popular spot due to there being plenty of water sports options and all the associated equipment hire you'd expect. There are plenty of other stunning beaches (and more spacious) alternatives just a short distance away. A particular highlight is the stunning Praia da Marinha, a series of rocky coves that features a mapped trail for diving and snorkeling.
Boat trips are also a possibility in this area, with smaller vessels able to take visitors right into the local grottoes and sea caves. With a perfect location just west of the “central” Algarve region, Carvoeiro also makes a great base for exploration. Golf fans are in luck too, with a host of superb courses within easy reach.
Much of Carvoeiro’s rental accommodation is located in the hills surrounding the town, providing visitors with the perfect compromise between seclusion and convenience.
